Opening Hours for Korea's Catholic Shrines — Seoul, Jecheon and Jeju
Most Catholic shrines in Korea have a website in Korean only, and the opening hours are usually one line on an inside page. For a pilgrim who does not read Korean, that is a real wall — a reader wrote to tell us so.
What follows is only what each shrine or museum publishes itself. Where we could not confirm something, or where the official sources disagree, we say so. Hours change. Before a long trip out, a phone call is worth it.
One rule to learn first — Mondays
Almost every shrine museum in Seoul closes on Monday. The Jeoldusan Martyrs' Museum, the Seosomun Shrine History Museum and the Archdiocese of Seoul History Hall all do. The churches and the open-air shrines stay open. If your itinerary includes a Monday, spend it on the open-air sites and the churches.

Seoul itself is an international shrine
The Seoul Catholic Pilgrimage Route was declared an international pilgrimage site by the Holy See in September 2018 — the first in Asia. It links 24 sites in three courses:
- The Way of the Word — Myeongdong Cathedral to Gahoe-dong Church, 9 sites, 8.7 km
- The Way of Life — Gahoe-dong Church to Jungnim-dong Yakhyeon Church, 9 sites, 5.9 km
- The Way of Unity — Jungnim-dong Yakhyeon Church to Samseongsan Shrine, 8 sites, 29.5 km
The Way of the Word is the one to walk if you have a single day.

The shrine's own website gives the closing time as both 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on different pages; we follow the earlier one. How to get there without a car is covered in a separate note.
Jeju
Yongsu Shrine — where St. Andrew Kim Dae-gun came ashore
108 Yongsu 1-gil, Hangyeong-myeon, Jeju-si · 064-772-1252
Memorial hall and church 09:00–18:00 · Sunday Mass 10:00
In 1845 Fr. Kim Dae-gun, ordained in Shanghai and sailing for Korea, was driven ashore here by a storm. The first Mass he offered on Korean soil was celebrated at this spot. A reconstruction of his boat, the Raphael, stands on the grounds.
Published Mass times differ between sources. Treat 10:00 as the safe assumption — if the Mass turns out to be later, you simply wait. To be certain, phone 064-772-1252. One source also reports the memorial hall closing on Mondays, so ask about that in the same call.
Daejeong Shrine — the grave of Jeong Nan-ju Maria
102 Chusa-ro 247beon-gil, Daejeong-eup, Seogwipo · 064-794-2074 (Moseulpo Parish)
An open-air grave site. No opening hours are posted.
Jeong Nan-ju, wife of Hwang Sa-yeong, was exiled to Jeju as a government slave after the persecution of 1801. She lived here for thirty-seven years and is buried on this ground.
Hwangsapyeong Shrine
117-22 Giwa 5-gil, Jeju-si · 064-721-0147
An open-air shrine. No opening hours are posted.
It is the burial ground of those killed in the Sinchuk Incident of 1901. It is laid out as an open park with lawns and a short walking path, so you can come and go as you would in any neighbourhood park.
